Before the 1919 Series began, many people already knew that is was going to be fixed. With these rumors going around about a fixed World Series, people started to bet against the White Sox. Tickets also for each game turned face-value and lower. Not knowing if these rumors were true, Christy Mathewson, image to the right, was to be taking stats and calculating averages to conferm if the 1919 World Series would or wouldn't be considered fixed.
